River lifting operation - Mini spiner crane UNIC URW706
03-04-2023
Our partner GGR's UNIC URW-706 spider crane was deployed on the water to support crucial repair work at a important UK river Lock gates..
Tasked with repairing two 2.5-tonne lock gates, each measuring 4 meters in height and 2.5 meters in width, a prominent UK engineering firm took on the commission. The gates needed to be lifted out of the lock for essential maintenance.
Due to the inaccessibility of the lock gates, a unique lifting solution was employed, utilizing the UNIC 706 mini crane. Weighing 7.9 tonnes, the UNIC spider crane was placed atop a purpose-built pontoon and towed 550 meters along the water by a motorboat. The pontoon, measuring 4.5 meters in width, 10 meters in length, and 1 meter in depth, had a capacity of carrying 12 tonnes.
Once in position, the URW-706 mini spider crane could effortlessly span the 5-meter-wide gap over the lock to facilitate the removal of each 2.5-tonne gate.
